We all live in a world where credit is king. Mortgages auto loans and credit cards are all commonplace in our lives.
Getting any credit though is based upon our credit scores and knowing how you stand is vital. But still so many people ask “How can I get my credit score?” The answer is a lot simpler than you would imagine.
If I wanted to know how can I get my credit score, the simple answer would be easy. Under Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, the national companies which compile and report the credit scores, such as Experian have certain obligations. They have to give you a free copy of your report, if you request it every twelve months. This information is direct from the FTC who enforces it.
So if you what to check it before you apply for that credit card, you now know your rights. On top of that the 3 big credit agencies, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion have come together to offer a big one stop central website. It has a telephone number for any enquiries and an address which you can write to claim your free report. There is another big advantage to this to anyone who wants to know ‘How can I get my credit score’, in that it offers choice.
Order reports from all three agencies at the same time or one at a time. This means that if you want you can get one report every 4 months totally free. So spread them out to play the rules. It is legal and provides a cheap way to keep a careful eye one the information to make sure there are no unauthorized or rogue entries that appear. This is very useful, especially if you are looking at several important applications, such as a mortgage in the near future.
