Cell Phone Tracker Apps and How They Work

May 22, 2011.

Many people are still amazed by cell phone tracker applications and want to know how they work and how can they track down another phone so easily.

The first tracking method of a phone tracker applications will be triangulation. With triangulation, the tracking device actually gets in contact with cell phone towers, tree of them precisely. The cell phone always pings to the nearest cell phone tower and the tracking app will access two more towers in order to create a triangle made out of them. This way of tracking down a cell phone is not so accurate as there are a lot of other factors involved in this action.

If you are in a Wi-Fi hot spot then you should know that you can be tracked down at some extent. This is possible because the cell phone you have will start to ping the Wi-Fi router. This might seem convenient but it is a really inaccurate tracking solution. It can be really accurate if the Wi-Fi spot has its own personal IP address but as most of them have shared IPD dresses you might end up with some really weird results. You might track a friend sitting next to you and the application might tell you that he is 100 miles away where the same IP address is present.

Last but not least but definitely the most accurate way of tracking down someone is through GPS. You should know that you cell phone has a small GPS chip inside of it. The tracking application will contact this chip and it will through the Internet and it will tell it to connect to satellites, twelve of them. The GPS chip will comply and after it has contacted the satellites it will send the results to the tracking application’s web page. There you will get the exact location of the cell phone by means of latitude and longitude and believe me, it is really accurate.
